St Bartholomew's School selected leading Unified Communications specialist Blue Chip to help them replace their legacy telephone system, improve voice communications across the campus and utilise the existing wireless network for both voice and data.

The Client

St Bart's is a forward-thinking comprehensive school based in Newbury, Berkshire, whose results and achievements place it as one of the top secondary schools in the country.

The school selected Blue Chip to help deliver integrated wired and wireless telephony and voicemail across the campus for 150 users. The school's vision for the future, including new purpose-built facilities, meant that the existing Toshiba PBX was not able to provide the school with the benefits of IP telephony that would be so important for its continued success.

Solution

Blue Chip designed and implemented a Cisco Unified Communications system that provided St Bart's with an expandable solution for up to 240 handsets.

The Cisco system is a cost effective, flexible and highly reliable solution for small to medium organisations. For St Bart's it provided new functionality to improve communications across the campus and reduce administration, including:

  • Easy to complete adds, moves and changes without the need for telephony specialists
  • Voicemail to the Outlook Inbox
  • Integrated wireless telephony
  • Reduced power and cabling requirements within the new building

Success and Company Benefits

Implementing the Blue Chip solution enabled St Bart's to make full use of their investment in wireless technology by using the existing wireless network for both voice and data traffic. With the new facilities due for completion in 2010, the new telephony system would require fewer power and network cables to be installed, reducing the cost of the build. To ensure St Bart's obtained maximum value, Blue Chip provided comprehensive user and administrator training, and continues to support the school with Helpdesk support.
