Requirement : Business Continuity
Clayesmore School selected virtualisation specialist Blue Chip to implement a VMware solution that supported the school’s migration to a Microsoft platform and provided a robust business continuity strategy.
Clayesmore School is an Independent school for children aged 2½ to 18 years old. The school was founded in 1896 in Enfield and has occupied its present location at Iwerne Mister, Dorset for 75 years. The school is very proud of its tradition, its family approach to delivering high quality education and its top-notch facilities.
The school had run its IT systems on UNIX and Linux based systems, which were becoming increasingly problematic, requiring more and more administration and IT support time. As a result, the school’s management team decided to migrate their systems to a Microsoft-based platform and selected Blue Chip to build a secure network infrastructure.
Following a detailed consultation with the school’s IT team, Blue Chip planned, designed and implemented a solution that included virtualised servers using HP ProLiant Servers and VMware technology, centralising storage with an EMC SAN. The virtualised servers were replicated across the campus to a separate building using Quest technology. In the event of a loss of IT services within the primary building, the replicated servers will deliver thecritical applications the school requires, providing a robust business continuity strategy.
As a Microsoft Gold Partner, Blue Chip also provided advice and consultancy to assist the internal team with deployment of Active Directory 2008.
Implementation Success and Organisational Benefit
Following this implementation the school were able to build a new Active Directory and install Microsoft Windows servers as virtual machines.
Clayesmore School have reported that the Blue Chip solution has reduced the volume of IT related issues and network management requirements. In addition, the school can now operate without the worry of IT failure causing a disruption to the delivery of education.
James Gater, Network Manager for Clayesmore School said, “As we operate with a small IT team, the reliability and easy management of the new system means that we can now concentrate on developing the school’s IT, rather than continual troubleshooting.”
